Beaver Drops two Games in Conference Opener

Monaca, PA - On Thursday, April 1, the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team lost two games to Penn State Greater Allegheny, 6-2 and 8-6, in their PSUAC opener.
In the first game, Beaver started off the scoring and took a quick 1-0 lead. However, Greater Allegheny scored three runs in the fifth inning to pull ahead, then scored three more for the win.
Senior Ryan Raraigh (Riverside High School, Fombell, PA) hit a double and a home run for the Lions, and freshman Markus Allen (Uniontown High School, New Castle, PA) had two hits.
In the second game, Beaver was down 5-3 at the bottom of the seventh until senior Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School, Fair Oaks, PA) hit a two-run double that tied the game. However, Beaver was outscored 3-1 in the extra frame, taking its second loss of the day.
In the second game, Raraigh hit another home run, Allen and Frederick each added doubles, and freshman Cory Wagner (Center High School, Aliquippa, PA) had two hits, a single, and a home run.
Beaver is now 4-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference. On Saturday, April 3, Beaver will travel to take on Penn State York in a PSUAC game at 2:00 p.m.
