Beaver Defeats #4 Central Maine, Advances to Take on #1 Seed Apprentice School
By Jim Heath, Sports Information Director, Apprentice School
Old Orchard Beach, ME - Central Maine Community College (CMCC) was hoping to replicate the success of fellow co-host Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) as they squared off against # 5 seed Penn State Beaver. Unfortunately for CMCC, Beaver pitcher Greg Frederick decided to bring his best stuff. Frederick fired a no-hitter, recording the first no-hitter in USCAA Tournament history as he paced his team to a 3-0 shutout over CMCC.
Offensively, Penn State Beaver was led by first baseman Cory Wagner, who pitched in a run scored and an RBI in the win.
Penn State Beaver earned a chance to play #1 seed Newport News Apprentice School tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.
