Monaca, PA-The Penn State Beaver Lion's hosted the Lions of Penn State Fayette on Tuesday in a PSUAC double-header, where they defeated them twice by a score of 10-3. In game one, Beaver and Fayette both went scoreless in the first inning. Beaver held Fayette from scoring any in the top of the 2nd and broke the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the 2nd when Beaver scored first. Innings three and four were in favor of Beaver as they held Fayette from scoring and drove in two runs in the bottom of the 3rd and four runs in the bottom of the 4th to go up 8-0 against Fayette.
The fifth inning was all defensive as each team was scoreless. It was the 6th inning that sparked Fayette as they rallied scoring three runs. However, Beaver answered Fayette's three runs with three of their own to defeat Fayette by a final of 10-3. Junior Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley/Sweickely, PA) pitched a masterful game striking out a total of 13 batters. Beaver was led by junior Ryan Raraigh (Riverside/Fombell, PA) with two doubles and three RBI's and freshman Matt LaValle (Center/Monaca, PA) had two hits and three RBI's.
Game two proved to be a different story when Fayette was the first to score against Beaver in the top of the 2nd. Fayette drove in two runs to take an early 2-0 lead. Finally in the bottom of the 3rd Beaver answered the call when they scored their first run. Fayette answered back with another run of their own in the top of the 4th, but Beaver won the inning scoring 6 runs against Fayette in the bottom of the 4th. Beaver wanted to make it hard for Fayette to rally back against them so they add 3 more runs to their score in the bottom of the 5th to go up 10-3 against Fayette. Beaver held Fayette to no runs in the 6th and the 7th and won by a final of 10-3.
Beaver was led by sophomore Huston Lorenzo (South West/Miami, FL) with two hits and four RBI's and Raraigh had two RBI's. Beaver totalled 11 stolen bases for the double-header against Fayette.
Beaver (11-7, 17-15) will continue PSUAC play when they host the Lions of Penn State Hazelton on Saturday, April 18th. Game time is set to begin at 2p.m.
