Beaver Takes Two from York

On Sunday, Sept. 21 the Penn State Beaver baseball team ended its weekend trip when they won a doubleheader at Penn State York, 7-0 and 18-4.
In game one, Beaver scored first in the third inning with three runs and added four in the top of the sixth. In the shut-out against York, junior Joe Scherer (Sewickley, PA) pitched the complete game, striking out five, and leading with three hits. Sophomore Huston Lorenzo (Miami, FL) and freshman Dan Sonsini (Aliquippa, PA) each drove in two RBIs for the win.
In the second game, Beaver scored eleven runs in the top of the first and York had two in the bottom of the first. Beaver scored in the top of the second and took five in the top of the third. York scored two runs in the bottom of the third. Beaver scored their final run in the top of the fifth which invoked the mercy rule on York and ended the game in the fifth inning.
Scherer led the team with five hits and three RBIs, junior Reid Schwertz (Freedom, PA) totaled three RBIs, junior Cody Moldovan (Elwood City, PA) had a double and two singles as he drove in four runs, and junior Justin Parasida (Ambridge, PA) hit two doubles and drove in four runs.
The Beaver Lions are 6-2 in the PSUAC and 6-2 overall. They continue conference play on Saturday, Sept. 27 when they travel to Penn State Greater Allegheny for a doubleheader at noon.
