Beaver Men Drop Two to Pitt-Johnstown
On Monday, March 9, the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown Panthers baseball team defeated the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions in two games, 7-6 and 16-3, in Fort Pierce, FL.
In game 1, Pitt scored first with two runs in the bottom of the first for a 2-0 lead. Beaver responded with five unanswered runs, scoring one in the second and third and three in the fourth for a 5-2 lead at the bottom of the fourth.
In the fifth inning, Pitt pulled within one, scoring two in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game with one in the bottom of the sixth. Beaver and Pitt each scored a run in the seventh to tie the score, 6-6, and take the game into extra innings. However, Pitt came out ahead on a walk-off bloop single in the bottom of the ninth.
Beaver junior Ryan Raraigh (Riverside High School, Fombell, PA) led the Lions with three hits and sophomore Huston Lorenzo (Southwest Miami High School, Miami, FL) had two.
In the second game, Beaver took an early lead by scoring two in the bottom of the first, but Pitt quickly took over and scored in every inning for a 16-3 win.
Beaver is 1-3 and will return to action on Wednesday, March 11 when they take on La Roche College at the Lawnwood Complex in Fort Pierce, Fl.
