Redhawks Fly Past Lions, 10-8
On Wednesday, March 11 the La Roche College Redhawks defeated the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team, 10-8, in the Lions' last game of their spring break trip to Florida
La Roche struck first, plating two runs in the first to take an early 2-0 lead. Beaver responded by scoring two in the top of the second, took the lead in the third, and scored three runs for a 5-2 lead.
The Redhawks scored one in the third and two in the fourth, but the Lions scored one in the fourth to take the lead, 6-5. La Roche scored five times in the fifth, however, and broke the game open at 10-6. Beaver was able to put a rally together in the seventh, scoring twice to pull within two points at 10-8, but La Roche took the win.
In the loss, the Lions were led by freshman Matt Lavalle (Center High School, Aliquippa, PA). Senior Jeff Trojan (Rochester High School, Rochester, PA) and junior Ryan Raraigh (Riverside High School, Fombell, PA) led the way offensively with two hits each while Trojan and junior Justin Parasida (Ambridge High School, Ambridge, PA) both drove in two runs.
Beaver sophomore Jake Gram (Louisville High School, Louisville,OH) was tagged with the loss, pitching four innings, giving up five earned runs on six hits, and striking out three.
The Lions are 1-5 overall. On Monday, March 16 they travel to take on the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets in a non-conference game at 1 p.m.
