Beaver Scores Two Wins Over Waynesburg
The Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions men's baseball team extended their winning streak on Thursday, April 17 when they defeated Waynesburg University in a doubleheader, 9-8 and 6-5. Beaver is now 16-6 overall and 13-3 in the PSUAC.
In game one, Waynesburg built a 5-1 lead, scoring one in the first, one in the second, and three in the third. Beaver pulled within two, scoring twice in the fifth. Waynesburg plated three in the sixth for an 8-3 lead and Beaver responded by scoring three in the sixth and three in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
Sophomore Zac Fetchin (Hopewell High School) pitched a scoreless seventh inning to earn his first collegiate victory. Offensively, freshman Huston Lorenzo (Miami, FL) had three hits and scored one run. Sophomore Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School) added two hits, drove in two runs, and scored two runs. Freshman Alex Fox (Ellwood City High School) had two hits, including a three-run home run in the sixth and the game-winning RBI in the seventh.
In game two, Waynesburg built a 3-2 lead scoring one in the first and two in the second before Beaver came back with two in the bottom of the second. Waynesburg added two in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead. Beaver tied it by scoring three in the sixth and one in the seventh for the win. Freshman Nate Stonfer (Ambridge High School) pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh for the victory.
Offensively, Frederick recorded two more hits and sophomore Ryan Raraigh (Riverside High School) had two hits and scored two runs. Senior Jeff Trojan (Rochester High School) added three hits and drove in two runs in the win.
On Saturday, April 19 Beaver will travel to Penn State Fayette for a 1 p.m. doubleheader. On Sunday, April 20 the Lions will close out their PSUAC schedule when they host Penn State Greater Allegheny for a doubleheader at noon.
