Beaver Lions Win 2008 Opener
The 2008 season opened with a bang for the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team when they
defeated Neumann College, 9-6, on Sunday, March 9 in Fort Pierce, Florida. Beaver scored seven in the first inning and picked up insurance runs in the third and fourth before Neumann could get on the board by scoring five in the seventh.
Beaver sophomore Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School) earned the win and pitched six strong innings, gave up three earned runs and seven hits, struck out eleven, and walked four. Offensively, senior Jeff Trojan (Rochester High School) led the way with three hits and two RBIs. Senior Pat Ringel (Sto Rox High School), Frederick, sophomore Joe Scherer (Quaker Valley High School), and sophomore Ryan Rraigh all had two hits and one RBI. Ringel pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth to record the save.
The Lions return to action on Monday, March 10 when they take on Manhattanville College at 8 p.m. in Fort Pierce, Florida.
