Lions Tie for PSUAC Title
On Sunday, April 27 the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team closed out their PSUAC season when they hosted and defeated Penn State Greater Allegheny in a make-up game, 10-6. The rain-out occured on Tuesday, April 22 when the game was suspended in the top of the first with Greater Allegheny's bases loaded and one out.
On Sunday Greater Allegheny cashed in three runs while Beaver scored one in the first and four in the second for a 5-3 lead going into the third. Greater Allegheny scored three to take the lead for a short time, but Beaver answered with three of their own in the bottom of the third for an 8-6 lead. Beaver added two insurance runs in the fourth to win the game.
Sophomore Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School) pitched three innings, giving up three earned runs on three hits, walking two, and striking out five. Freshman Nate Stonfer (Ambridge High School), sophomore Joe Scherer (Quaker Valley High School), and senior Pat Ringel (Sto Rox High School) each had two hits in the win.
The Beaver Nittany Lions finished 16-4 in the PSUAC, tied for first with Penn College. On Wednesday, April 30 Beaver will travel to Williamsport for the PSUAC Conference Tournament.
