Beaver Men Take Two from Greater Allegheny
The Penn State Beaver baseball team won two games in PSUAC action, 16-4 and 14-5, when they traveled to Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday, April 12.
In the first game, Greater Alleghney built a 3-0 lead, scored twice in the first, and once in the third. Beaver responded with fve in the fourth, two in the fifth, and nine in the sixth. Although Greater Allegheny scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, Beaver won the game, 16-4.
Sophomore Joe Scherer (Quaker Valley High School) pitched six innings, giving up four earned runs, walking two, and striking out four. Freshman Ben Sladick (Western Beaver High School) had three hits, all doubles, with three runs batted in. Scherer and senior Pat Ringel (Sto Rox High School) both had two hits and drove in two runs. Freshman Alex Fox (Ellwood City High School) had one hit, scored one run, and recorded four RBIs.
In the second inning of game two, Beaver scored two runs off a home run hit by Scherer. In the fifth inning, Beaver built a 7-1 lead, scoring five times. The Lions struck out again in the seventh and scored five more to put the final score at 14-5.
Ringel pitched five innings, gave up four hits, walked four, and struck out seven. Ringel also contributed at the plate with three hits, scoring twice, driving in three runs, and stealing two bases. Freshman Jake Ellis (Seneca Valley High School) had two hits, scoring twice, and driving in two while freshman Ron Wilkins (Souh Side High School) had two hits. Freshman Huston Lorenzo (Miami, Fl) hit a home run in the victory and also drove in three runs.
The Lions return to action on Sunday, April 13 when they travel to Community College of Allegheny County - South for a non-conference match up at noon.
