Lions Tame Geneva's Golden Tornadoes
On Monday, March 24 the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team traveled to Beaver Falls to take on and defeat the Geneva College Golden Tornadoes, 10-9.
Although the weather was frigid, there was plenty of action to keep things hot. Geneva got the score going early, crossing the plate twice in the first inning and four times in the third to build a 6-0 lead. Beaver answered with three in the fourth to pull within 6-3. Beaver took the lead in the seventh when they plated seven to gain a 10-6 advantage. The Tornadoes had two in the seventh and one in the eighth when the game ended.
Freshman Jake Ellis (Seneca Valley High School) earned the win, pitching six strong innings in relief, giving up eight hits, two earned runs, walking none, and striking out three. Senior Jeff Trojan (Rochester, PA) and freshmen Huston Lorenzo (Miami, FL) and Ellis led the way offensively. Trojan had two hits, a double, and two RBIs, Ellis had two hits and two RBI's, and Lorenzo had three doubles and two RBIs. Freshman Nate Stonfer (Ambridge, PA) had two RBI's as well.
Today's game kicked off a five-game set this season between Beaver and Geneva. The Nittany Lions return to action when they host Geneva for a doubleheader, noon, Saturday, Mach 29.
