Beaver Sweeps Fayette in PSUAC Action
On Thursday, April 10 the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team hosted and defeated Penn State Fayette, 4-2 and 9-8.
In game one, Fayette took a 1-0 lead in the third, but Beaver rallied by scoring four times for a 4-1 lead. Freshmen Alex Fox (Ellwood City High School) and Nate Stonfer (Ambridge High School) led off the fourth inning with singles and senior Pat Ringel (Sto Rox High School) followed with a single that drove in both runs.
Ringel advanced on the throw home to second while back-to-back doubles by sophomore Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School) and senior Jeff Trojan (Rochester High School) drove in two more runs. Fayette scored a meaningless run in the seventh and Beaver took the game, 4-2. In the win, Frederick pitched seven innings, giving up two earned runs on seven hits, walking three, and striking out twelve. Offensively, Ringel had two hits and two RBIs.
In game two, Fayette scored four runs in the top of the first inning and Beaver scored two in the bottom of the first. Fayette pushed the lead to 7-3 in the second, scoring three runs and adding one in the fourth. Beaver finally went to work in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game, 8-8. Beaver scored the deciding run in the fifth inning, winnng the game, 9-8.
In the victory, Stonfer pitched five innings, giving up one earned run, two hits, walking one, and striking out three. Offensively, freshman Huston Lorenzo (Miami, FL) led the way with two hits, three RBIs, and two runs. Sophomore Ryan Raraigh (Riverside High School) had two hits, one RBI, and scored a run while sophomore Justin Parasida (Ambridge High School) had a bases-clearing double in the fourth that drove in four runs.
Beaver now stands at 11-3 in the PSUAC. Beaver travels to Penn State Greater Allegheny on Saturday, April 12 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
