Beaver Loses Two to Clarion
On Tuesday, April 22 the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions traveled to Clarion University where they were defeated by their host in a doubleheader, 7-5 and 11-2.
In game one, Clarion jumped out to a big lead in the first inning, scoring six times to build a 6-0 lead. Beaver added one in the third, but Clarion added one in the fifth, pushing the score to 7-1. Beaver rallied by scoring two in the sixth and two in the seventh, but the surge ended when they lost the game.
Freshman Alex Fox (Ellwood City High School) was tagged with the loss, pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up runs on five hits and two walks. Offensively, Fox led the way with hits, and sophomore Joe Scherer (Quaker Valley High School) drove in two runs.
In game two, Beaver took a 1-0 lead in the first. Clarion tied at 1-1 when they scored one in the bottom of the third but broke it open, scoring six in the fourth and four in the sixth. Beaver scored one in the fifth but suffered a second loss.
Scherer took the loss, pitching five innings, giving up ten hits, walking two, and striking out one. At the plate, sophomore Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School) hit a home run in the fifth.
Beaver is 17-9 overall and 14-4 in the PSUAC. The men round out their season on Wednesday, April 23 when they host Penn State Greater Allegheny for a make-up doubleheader (from Sunday, Apil 20) at 2 p.m.
