Lions Defeat Butler County, 20-5
On Thursday, April 3 the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team traveled to Butler County Community College where they defeated their host, 20-5, in a non-conference match-up.
Beaver led the first inning with four in the opening frame. Butler tied it in the bottom of the second, scoring four. The Lions came back with four in the third and seven in the fourth to take a 15-5 lead after four innings. Beaver continued to score five more and closed the game early with the mercy rule.
In the win, freshman Nate Stonfer (Ambridge High School) pitched two innings, gave up four earned runs on three hits, two walks, and struck out one to earn the win. Senior Pat Ringel (Sto Rox High School) led the way with three hits and three runs and drove in two. Sophomore Ryan Raraigh (Riverside High School) had five hits and scored three runs while senior Jeff Trojan (Rochester High School) had three hits, four runs, and seven RBIs. Trojan capped off the seventh inning with a grand slam, his third home run of the season.
The win brings Beaver to 9-3 in the PSUAC and 22-10 overall. The Nittany Lions return home this weekend when they host three USCAA teams for a weekend round robin.
