Beaver Splits with Penn College in Final Fall 2007 Season Games

On Saturday, October 13, 2007, Penn State Beaver hosted Penn College in Beaver's final games of the 2007 fall season.
In game one, Penn College struck first earning two runs in the top of the third inning. Beaver retaliated and also scored two runs in the bottom of the same inning. Penn College scored one run in the fourth, and two more runs in the fifth. Beaver was unable to answer to these runs and in the seventh inning Penn College went on a hitting spree, scoring an outstanding 13 runs.
Freshmen Nate Stonfer (Ambridge High School) had a double in the first game. Freshmen Ronnie Wilkins (South Side Area High School) led the team with a pair of hits.
Beaver would lose the first game 18-2, finishing with a team total of four hits.
In game two, Beaver took the field ready and determined to win their last game of the season. They took an early lead, scoring one run in the second inning. Sophomore Ryan Raraigh (Riverside High School) led the attack with a double and a single. Seniors, Pat Ringel (Sto-Rox High School), Jeff Trojan (Rochester High School), and Ian Thomson (Hopewell High School), all had RBI singles.
Beaver pitcher, Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School), pitched a masterful seven innings, allowing only five hits, and four walks. Frederick would also strike out an impressive six batters.
Beaver would finish game two with a total of seven hits and five runs. They also would come out victorious over the PSUAC power house, Penn College, with a score of 5-2. Penn State Beaver would finish 15-7 overall for the season, with a conference record of 9-3. Beaver will return full swing in the spring season with opening game scheduled for March 29, 2008 against Geneva College.
This game marked senior Ian Thomson's last career game with Penn State Beaver. Both his teammates and coaches will sorely miss him. When asked what some things they would miss most about Thomson next season, sophomore Greg Frederick states, "Seeing his pretty face everyday in the outfield and the energy and passion he brings both on and off the field." Also, sophomore Joe Scherer (Quaker Valley High School) says "I will miss his smile and his great leadership skills." It is plain to see that Thomson had some good times and made great friends with his teammates and he will be dearly missed in the upcoming spring season. Teammates, coaches, and Beaver fans all wish Ian the best of luck and thank him for his tremendous contributions to the baseball team.
