Lions Split Two with PSUAC Rival Penn College
On Saturday, Oct. 6 the Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team traveled to Williamsport to split a doubleheader with rival and PSUAC powerhouse, Penn College. Beaver won the first game, 5-2, and Penn took over the second game, and Penn College each had a win.
Beaver won game one, 5-2. The Lions scored first in the second before Penn took the lead by scoring two in the third, but Beaver came back to tie it in the sixth. The tie continued until the tenth inning when Beaver scored 3 times to take the victory. Senior Jeff Trojan (Rochester High School) and sophomore Joe Scherer (Quaker Valley High School) each had 2 hits and a double in the win, and freshman Huston Lorenzo (Miami, FL) recorded 3 hits in the win. Sophomore pitcher Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School) pitched a complete game of ten innings, struck out 12, and gave up 5 hits and 4 walks.
In game two, senior Pat Ringel (Sto-Rox High School) pitched 6 innings and gave up 8 runs with only 4 of the 8 being earned as errors cost Beaver the sweep. Ringel gave up 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. Scherer and freshman Nate Stonfer (Ambridge High School) led the way offensively with 2 hits each.
Beaver will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 7 when they travel to go up against Penn State Greater Allegheny for a non-conference game at noon.
