Beaver Lions Sweep Delaware, Push Conference Record to 6-0
The Penn State Beaver Nittany Lions baseball team remains unbeaten in the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) after downing Penn State Delaware in two games, 11-0 and 6-2.
In game one, sophomore Greg Frederick (Quaker Valley High School) pitched 5 innings, giving up 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out 4 to push his season record to 3-0. Offensively, freshman Ronnie Wilkins (South Side High School) led the attack with 2 hits, 1double, and 3 RBI's. Freshman AJ Wargo (Cannon-McMillan High School) added a double and a triple, driving in 3 runs as well. Frederick also added 2 hits.
In game two, senior Pat Ringel (Sto-Rox High School) earned his second victory (2-0) of the season, pitching a complete game, giving up 7 hits and 1 walk and striking out 8 in seven innings. Delaware scored first, putting up 1 run in the second inning. Beaver answered by scoring 1 in the fifth and 5 in the sixth. In the sixth, freshman Ried Schwertz (Freedom High School) started the inning off with a single. Sophomore Ryan Raraigh (Riverside High School) followed with a single, and freshmen Ben Sladick (Western Beaver High School) and Dan Macuga had back-to-back doubles to drive in runs. Delaware added 1 in the seventh inning. Offensively, Schwertz, Raraigh, and senior Ian Thomson (Hopewell High School) each had 2 hits.
The Beaver Lions return to action Tuesday, Sept. 25 when they travel to Butler County Community College for a 2 p.m. doubleheader. The Lions will resume PSUAC action on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29 and 30, when they're in Scranton and Wilkes Barre for back-to-back conference doubleheaders.
