Hayley Johnson To Attend Beaver Next Fall
Johnson, from Colorado Springs, CO, is the newest recruit to join the 2016 roster.
Penn State Beaver Volleyball would like to welcome Hayley Johnson, a senior at Steamboat Springs High School, to the 2016 roster.
On the court, Johnson is an outside hitter who has experience in the middle and right side as well. In the 2015 season she tallied 196 kills for a hitter percentage of .203. For her efforts on the court she was awarded First Team All Conference Honorable Mention in her senior season. Coach Bertges hopes to see her use her skill set as a middle next fall and help her continue to develop her skillset as well as solidify the offense to help guide the team back to the Final Four.
In the classroom she is equally successful earning Academic All Team in both 2014 and 2015. In addition to her classwork she likes to stay active in the community as well, coaching U14's for Whiteout Volleyball Club in Steamboat.
When asked about her favorite sports memory Hayley quickly responded, "winning (the) league title, something my school hasn't done in 22 years". They accomplished this in her senior season with 9 other seniors on the roster. She loved the excitement she felt going into an opponents gym with a bigger crowd than the home team often had. "It's one of the best feelings ever", she said.
Johnson is looking forward to creating that special bond of being on a sports team and making a new family and new memories playing the sport that she loves. "Being able to continue playing volleyball is such a blessing for me and Beaver is the school that I can do that at and excel at it. I am very excited for this new chapter in my life", says Johnson. Coach Bertges is excited about the 2016 season and cannot wait to see the potential and success that lie ahead.
