Penn State Scranton Men’s Soccer Drops Conference Showdown Against Penn State Beaver

On a picturesque autumn day on the turf field at historic Schautz Stadium in Dunmore, the hometown Penn State Scranton men's soccer team fell to conference foe Penn State Beaver 5-1. With the defeat, Scranton's record drops to 0-2 in conference play, and 0-3 overall on the young season.

Penn State Beaver jumped out to a quick 2-0 advantage going into halftime, as they enjoyed goals from Mishael Garcia, assisted by Nadeem Shakshir, at the 10:18 mark and then Shakshir scored an unassisted goal of his own at the 26:24 mark. The Beaver's Jake Ross scored a goal to up his squad's advantage to 3-0 in the second half, before Scranton came roaring back to get on the scoreboard. At the 71:11 mark, senior captain Michael Foder connected on a penalty shot to cut his ball club's deficit to 3-1.

However, Penn State Beaver would not be denied on this day, as they added two more insurance goals to build their lead up to 5-1, a score they would take to the final buzzer. Both goals would come unassisted, as Ethan Paxton scored at 85:10 and Colton Heasley scored shortly after at 86:49.

Scranton's sophomore goalkeeper Antonio Pugliese started in net and played all 90-minutes in the contest, as he stopped nine of the fourteen Beaver shots on goal. Meanwhile, Penn State Beaver's goalkeeper Alex Hart stopped four of the five shots on goal from Scranton and played 71:11 of the game before being relieved in net by his backup Adrian Garcia who finished out the match.

Now Scranton will get right back in action this Sunday afternoon at 1pm, as they look to capture their first win of the season when they play host to another conference opponent, this time Penn State Greater Allegheny.
