Bio

Coach Moore, a three-time recipient of both the USCAA DII Coach of the Year and PSUAC Coach of the Year, is entering his fifteenth year with the Beaver Women’s basketball program and his twelfth year at the helm.  Moore returned to the program during the 2019-2020 season after a two year stint at USCAA Division I/NAIA (River States Conference) Carlow University.  During his tenure as the head coach, Moore’s career record is 226-127 (64% win percentage) and a PSUAC record of 160-25 (86% win percentage).

Taking over Carlow in 2017, Coach Moore amassed a record of 19-38 during his two years there.  He more than doubled the teams conference wins in his first season from the prior year.  In year two he guided the team to it’s first USCAA National Tournament in several seasons.  He produced two USCAA All-Americans during 2018-20219 season as well as Carlow’s first NAIA All-American during the 2017-2018 season.  Coach Moore also had 12 Academic All-Americans during his tenure at Carlow.  In 208-2019 Coach Moore and the team were invited to the Virgin Islands to play along side the likes if UCONN, St. John’s, UCLA and more in the Paradise Jam.  Also in year two Carlow beat cross town rival Point Park University (NAIA) for the first time in 18 years. Lastly, Coach Moore led his team to a win over a nationally ranked NAIA program for the first time in school history.

During the 2023-2024 season Coach Moore and his team got off to a slow start playing a tough non-conference schedule which included NCAA Division I Robert Morris University and top 10 Nationally Ranked NAIA Rio Grande University as well as USCAA Division I Bryant and Stratton Buffalo and Bryant and Stratton Syracuse.  This tough non-conference schedule not only was a great experience for the team but also proved to be beneficial going into PSUAC conference play.   Coach Moore and his team set a program record of 21 straight wins including three in the post-season to win the programs tenth conference championship.  The conference championship game included a thrilling 75-69 overtime victory over Penn State Lehigh Valley.  During those 21 wins the program also beat eventual 2024 USCAA DII national champion Christendom College.  Christendom ended up revenging it’s loss to Beaver in the USCAA national tournament Elite 8 game.

Coach Moore and his team went into the 2022-23 season very young and inexperienced, not knowing what to expect.  The Lady Lions ended up going 24-5 overall and 17-4 in conference. The team made it to the PSUAC Playoffs again but fell short in the Semi-Finals game against Penn State Lehigh Valley on a buzzer beater. The Lions went on to get another bid to the National Tournament though and went 2-1 during the tournament  and upset the #1 seed Central Maine CC in the Elite 8 before falling to Johnson and Wales (NC) by 3 in the Final Four.

After a year break from COVID, Coach Moore and his team took the court once again for the 2021-2022 season.  With four key returners back from the national championship team they hoped for another impressive run.  While they started the season slow, they finished strong.  Coach Moore won his second straight (ninth overall) conference championship defeating Penn State Schuylkill 59-51. This was Coach Moore’s sixth conference championship in eight (playing) seasons. They once again qualified for the USCAA National Tournament but lost in the Elite 8 to number one seed Johnson & Wales. The team finished the season with a record of 20-9 overall and 17-5 in the conference.

In Coach Moore’s first year back with the program (2019-2020) he led his program to the best record in school history with a 27-4 overall record and its first undefeated conference title record of 20-0.  Penn State Beaver earned  the number one seed going into the USCAA national championship games and did not disappoint.  The Lady Lions defeated all three opponents by a double-digit margin earning their second USCAA Division II National Title. Two players earned All-American status as well as national all-tournament team.  The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions are the only four-year school in the country to win a national championship during the 2020 season due to COVID.

Prior to his departure, in the 2016-17 season, the Lady Lions returned to the post season. Looking for its fifth straight conference title the Lady Lions eventually fell in the PSUAC semi-final against Penn State Hazleton ending their year with a 17-9 record overall and 12-3 in the PSUAC.

In the 2015-16 season, Coach Moore and the Lady Lions captured their fourth consecutive PSUAC Championship with a conference record of 15-1 (19-10 overall).  The victory gave them an automatic bid back to the USCAA Women's Basketball Division II tournament where they attempted to defend their national championship but fell to St. Joe's - Vermont in the semi-final round.

Under Moore, the Lady Lions won seven of the last ten conference championships and in the 2014-15 season they won their first National Tournament in the program's history.  That also marked the first time any PSUAC school had won a USCAA National Championship.  Moore has also coaches several All-Americans, two national tournament MVPs, and a number of Academic All-Americans during his tenure.

Moore is a 1996 graduate of Freedom High School where he received All-Tournament Team Selections in 1995 and 1996. He was captain of the Bulldogs in 1996 and selected for the Quigley Classic All-Star Game.

From 1996 to 1998, Moore was team captain for the Beaver campus Nittany Lions basketball team under the late Head Coach Ken Fusina. After a strong sophomore campaign, Moore received the Robert J. Miklos Memorial Award for leadership and accomplishments on and off the court.

Moore began coaching in 2002 at Freedom High School where he was assistant coach for the boys' varsity team. In 2003 he became assistant coach for the varsity girls' basketball team at Monaca High School. He specialized at the defensive end of the floor and helped his team to three WPIAL playoff appearances, one PIAA state playoff appearance, and a section title (2006) in his three years as an assistant. That year Moore’s defense held opponents to the second lowest points per game average in the WPIAL.

Later, he became head coach of the Monaca varsity girls' basketball team, leading the team to two consecutive WPIAL appearances with an overall record of 18-27 and a section record of 15-9 in two seasons.

In addition, Moore has participated in the local AAU circuit. He was 2008-2009 head coach of the Basketball Stars of America girls' 13U and 16U teams and in 2010 he joined legendary coach John Miller and his Drill 4 Skill AAU organization. He has coached numerous basketball camps for Drill 4 Skill at Slippery Rock University and La Roche College and has also conducted basketball camps at Beaver campus and Robert Morris University.

Moore, who teaches life skills at PA Cyber, completed his master's degree in special education from Slippery Rock University where he also received his bachelor's degree in elementary education.
