Big Road Win Against Fayette
Lemont Furnace, PA - The Lions were on the road today taking on Penn State Fayette for the first time this season. Going into this game, Beaver had suffered a big loss against Greater Allegheny and they were looking to get back into a winning streak for the remainder of the season.
In the first quarter of the game, Beaver was able to get a 5 point lead earlier on, but it did not last long. Fayette was able to catch up, and from there the quarter remained neck-in-neck until the buzzer sounded. After the buzzer, Beaver had 15 points and Fayette sat close behind with 14 points. Beaver came out quick to score in start of the second quarter. Beaver gained an early 9 point lead over Fayette, and held onto a lead over Fayette for the rest of the quarter. Beaver went on to score 18 points and allowed Fayette to score 12. By the end of the half Beaver was up 33-26.
The third quarter of the game played out much like the second. Beaver did not score the first basket, but they kept their lead over Fayette. Fayette was able to close the gape a little bit, but not enough to take the lead away from Beaver. The third quarter was Beaver's best offensive quarter. They closed out the third scoring 22 points and allowed Fayette to score 17. Going into the last quarter of the game, the score sat 55-43 in Beaver's favor. Beaver played a great fourth quarter to close out the game. They held onto their lead of Fayette, dropped 18 more points, and kept Fayette to only scoring 14. Beaver traveled home with a much needed 73-57 win over Fayette.
Five players scored double digits for Beaver tonight. Junior Kyra Seggewiss (Calgary Alberta, Canada) was the player of the game finishing with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 1 steal. Freshman Daniela Guzman (Plainview, TX) also led Beaver in their win tonight finishing with 16 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 assist. Guzman also took 4 charges this game. Sophomore Kiera Baker (Houston, TX) finished with 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Junior Alison Boykin (Canton, OH) finished with 11 points, 1 steal, 4 assists, and 2 rebounds. Freshman Makitah Logan (Pittsburgh PA) came off the bench to score 11 points and have 2 steals, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists.
