Hitting the Road for the Season Opener

The Mighty Oaks left town for Pittsburgh to open the regular season against new opponents Penn State Beaver and Penn State Kensington. Both Penn state schools qualified for the USCAA national tournament last year.  "its always a gamble to go play a school you've never played before, especially when they are in the same national conference which can influence post-season standings." said head coach Scalisi. "Especially early in the season, there's no way to know what the other team is capable of and you're still getting your own roster nailed down."

Friday evening, the men took to the turf under the Beaver lights and after taking some time to settle in, our upperclassmen came through (Flint & Henkler) allowing the men to come away 1-0 to start the season.

The following day the Oaks headed across the city to Penn State New Kensington. It was a much hotter and humid day and a change from the day before to grass playing surface. After a slow start, the oaks let in a goal from New Kensington's Guerrini at the 28th minute and headed into halftime with the deficit. After re-organizing and rallying to start the second half, the Oak's netted 3 goals (Rapacciuolo, Frangie and Ingham) to turn the tide of the game. Late into this second game of the weekend, the Oaks were feeling the fatigue of a double header weekend.  After doubling down the team-wide defensive effort for the last 18 minutes of the game, the Oaks came out victorious 3-2 and headed home 2-0 on the season.

Their first home game is on Thursday, Sept. 8th against HVIAC Conference opponent Villa Maria at 4:45 pm
