Late Goals Lift Men’s Soccer Past Penn State Beaver

Brady Braun throws the ball in.

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. –  Two goals in the last eight minutes of play allowed the Penn State New Kensington men's soccer team to keep their winning streak alive with a 2-1 victory against Penn State Beaver. With the win, the Lions (11-3, 8-1 PSUAC)  clinched a home game in the upcoming PSUAC Tournament.

New Kensington went down early when Beaver scored in the 15th minute. The two teams then played an even match for the next for the next 68 minutes with neither squad finding the back of the net.

Finally, in the 83rd minute, freshman forward Austin Arnold (Washington, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) found himself alone with the ball in front of the goal and beat Beaver's keeper one-on-one to tie the game. The matched looked to be headed into overtime, but New Kensington found itself with one more chance with less than a minute left on the clock. Senior midfielder Brady Braun (Harrison City, Pa./Penn Trafford) managed to score directly off a corner kick to take the lead and eventual victory.

Pablo Rea (Tustin, Calif. / Santa Ana) made three saves in goal for New Kensington.

New Kensington will take on Penn State Brandywine in a battle for first place on Saturday, Oct. 23, at 2:00 p.m. Prior to Saturday's game, the Lions will recognize its seniors.
