Mustangs Drop Second Match in Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach, VA - On Sunday afternoon the Mustang men took on Penn State Beaver, located outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the second of the pool play matches. A miscue on a CM goal kick led to Mishael Garcia intercepting the ball and scoring unassisted. In the last minute of the first half the Mustangs combined for six passes in a buildup that culminated with a cross from Abdirahman Daud finding Mohamedamin Nur who flicked in a goal bring the match even 1-1 for the half.

Unfortunately, CM ran out of answers and the second half was all Penn State. Mishael Garcia got his second goal of the match at 53:16. Three minutes later it was Jake Ross and three minutes after that Ethan Paxton scored. At 62:20 Jared Perusich scored, and with just under ten minutes remaining Tanner Golletti provided a nice ball to Federick Riedel who finished the scoring, 6-1. Adrian Gacia made four saves for Penn State Bever and Noah Wilkinson made nine saves for CM.

Coach Wallace said, "It's a tough way to finish out a season. Twenty hours prior we played some of the finest soccer I've ever seen from our program against Five Towns College. After that match, and the extra twenty minutes of overtime we just ran out of momentum in the second half and the game got away from us. I'm extremely proud of our players, I'm sure in the next few days they'll recognize that we had a pretty successful season."
