Women’s Basketball Drop PSUAC Quarterfinals Matchup to Beaver

By: Frank Maira, Assistant Director of Athletics/Sports Information Director

MONACA, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto women's basketball team were unable to overcome a big first quarter deficit on Tuesday as they dropped their PSUAC Quarterfinals matchup by a 101-41 score to PSU Beaver.

Penn State Beaver were the No. 1 seed out of the PSUAC West and owned a perfect conference record within the regular season and relied on seasoned veterans Diamond Thomas and Emily Keener who scored 21 and 20 points apiece.  Keener scored 10 of the first 18 points as Beaver built a commanding 31-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The home team continued its pressure defense, but Mont Alto was able to somewhat solve it and went into halftime trailing 50-14. The deficit proved to be insurmountable with Beaver never putting the game in doubt within the second half. They were able to force 30 PSUMA turnovers and finished shooting 42.7% from the field and 42.9% (6-of-14) from 3-point range.

Sophomore guard Madison Bishop (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring) turned in a solid performance with 20 points and six rebounds.

Mont Alto concludes their season with an 8-16 overall record and its postseason berth was the programs first since the 2014-15 season.
