Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures
Athletic Training Room (ATR) Policies & Procedures:
- Masks are required at all times when in the ATR.
- Please be on time for appointments. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you will need to wait for the next available appointment time or be asked to reschedule.
- It is the athlete’s responsibility to report injuries to Athletic Trainer promptly.
- There are only 2 student-athletes permitted in the ATR at a time. There are chairs located outside the ATR for patients to wait. No one will be turned away, but we ask that you be patient and understanding of the circumstances.
- Please be respectful to the Athletic Training Staff and student-athletes receiving treatment. No cursing, intimidation, or discrimination will be tolerated towards anyone.
- If a student-athlete has changes to their physical, it is the student’s responsibility to report changes IMMEDIATELY so that proper files can be updated. Changes include…
- Change or loss of medical insurance
- Change to medical health
- Change in medications
- Athletes will ONLY be taped if the following applies:
- An athlete sustains an injury at practice/competition for their sport, which ATC deems taping is necessary as part of their treatment.
- If the athlete does not comply with the therapeutic Return to Play (RTP) plan which consists of rehabilitation sessions 2-3x a week at PSUB ATR or NovaCare clinic, they will not be taped.
Game Day Policies and Procedures:
- Competition days are not an evaluation/treatment day for athletes that are medically cleared to participate.
- The host Athletic Trainer is responsible for both home and visiting teams’ needs.
- For most competitions, the ATC will be available TWO HOURS prior to the start of competition. You will still need to schedule appointments for pre-game treatments.
- Student-Athletes may NOT REQUEST tapings for game days only. If you are not being taped for practice or receiving rehabilitation for an injury, then you will not be taped for games.
- Athletes must be compliant for treatments. If you are traveling to an away competition, you are expected to follow normal game day procedures.
- For away competitions, the Athletic Training staff will contact the Host ATC to arrange game day needs at the competition site as needed.
