Beaver Topples Greater Allegheny
Monaca, PA -- Penn State Beaver picked up another win Tuesday night against rival Penn State Greater Allegheny.
In the first game, the Lady Lions came out with a momentum that lasted the entire set. Beaver served aggresively and prevented Greater Allegheny from establishing their offense. The won the first set by a score of 25-11.
In the second set, Beaver's offense found their tempo. The hitters only committed one error in the set, and combined as a group for 11 total kills. Sophomore Alexis Albrecht tallied three aces in the set to help Beaver cruise to a 25-14 victory.
In the third and final set, Greater Allegheny began playing with desperation, doing all they could to keep the ball off of the floor. However, it didn't stop Beaver's offense from combining for 12 total kills, as the Lady Lions hung on to a 25-22 victory to win the match 3-0.
Senior setter Roxy Kie did an excellent job distributing the ball offensively, as all five hitters had double digit attempts. Leading the team in kills was Imani Hargrove with seven, while Amanda Mike, Brooke Tomasko and Jenna Petrucci each had six kills of their own.
Tonight's victory gives the Lady Lions their first PSUAC win of the season and bumps their overall record to 5-3. Beaver returns to action on Saturday, September 23 when they travel to Penn State New Kensington for their second conference bout of the season.
