North East, PA -- The Penn State Beaver girls hit the road for the first time this season as they travel to Mercyhurst Northeast looking to take home a win. This was Beaver's fourth game this season and they look to improve on their 1-2 record. Mercyhurst Northeast comes into this one as an impressive opponent so Beaver will have to be on top of their game leave winners.
The first set started off as a battle right off the bat, as Beaver and Mercyhurst went back and forth for quite some time. However, Mercyhurst Northeast looked very good as the set went on and pulled ahead, eventually winning the set by a score of 25-22.
The next two sets were a different story, as Beaver played well against a very good team but just couldn't get the job done. Because of nine team serving errors and an inconsistent serve receive, Beaver had a hard time of keeping up with Mercyhurst Northeast as they fell to them in the next two sets, losing the match three sets to none.
This loss to Mercyhurst Northeast was Beaver's third this year as their record now stands at 1-3. Even though they were unable to pull out a win this was "the best we've played against this team in 4 years" according to Penn State Beaver's head coach, BJ Bertges. Beaver's Jenna Petrucci and Morgan Cannister both played exceptionally well combining for 19 kills. Jordan Militello also played well in this game as she had two solo blocks to her credit. Beaver will return home on Friday, September 2nd to face off against Penn Highlands Community College in the first game of the PSUAC/WPCC Challenge at 4 pm.
