Rochester, PA -- The Penn State Beaver women squared off against Penn State Hazleton in their second conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon. The women come into this one looking to stay on track as they had just picked up their first win of the season in their last game against Penn State Mont Alto. The girls have looked decent so far this year through four games and they hope to improve and played a consistent game against Hazleton.
This one started out slow for both teams, and while Hazleton seemed to control the momentum in this one from the begining it took them 20 minutes to score their first goal of the game. After their first goal Beaver actually started to settle in on defense, playing very well until the end of the first half. The main problem for Beaver in this game was their inability to get their offense going, not scoring until it was too late. As the second half started Hazleton came out fresh and put up three quick goals taking a four nothing lead. Beaver showed one spark of life offensively in the 75th minute as Lauren Banks scored on a nice shot from a distance. This would be all that Beaver did in this one though as they fell by a final score of 4-1.
The Beaver girls played alright in this one, showing some stretches of great defensive play while barely getting their offense going. With sloppy play from Beaver, including a yellow card for Danielle Nicholson, it seemed impossible for them to get anything going and they will need to improve by a large margain if they looked to compete further on in the season. The women now sit at 1-4 overall on the season with a 1-1 conference record. They will play again on Wednesday, September 21 at Westmoreland County Community College with the game time set for 3 pm.
