White Oak, PA - The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions traveled to take on the Lions of Penn State Greater Allegheny on Thursday afternoon, claiming their fifth win of the season, after a 6 goal thriller that ended 4-2.
Beaver were under attack early on, with Allegheny claiming the advantage at the 5:52 mark through Danielle Hozinek. Allegheny continued to press Beaver, but Beaver fought back and showed they were determined to equalize before the break. The equalizer arrived before halftime, at the 30:45 mark through Morgan Stillwagon (Freedom, PA/Ambridge) after being assisted by Jessica Spina (Jefferson Hills, PA/ Thomas Jefferson).
The second half started off with intense action by both teams with 4 fouls in the first 9 minutes. Stillwagon claimed her and Beaver's second goal of the game after another assist by Spina on the 54:22 mark. Beaver continued to be the stronger attacking force but could not grab another goal before Albree Weisen scored on a longshot at the 61:09 mark where she scored the second equilizer making the score 2-2. The game didn't stay level for long when Sadie Stillwagon (Freedom, PA/ Freedom) with help from M. Stillwagon, put Beaver 3-2 up at the 72:22 mark. The fourth goal came from Spina, who put away Edisa Bukuru's (Pittsburgh, PA/ Brashear) assist on the 76:57 mark to finish the game 4-2 to Beaver.
This game meant Beaver extend their winning streak to 3 games. Beaver's next game is at home, Saturday, October 10, against Penn State Schuylkill at 2 p.m.
