Beaver Starts Off Conference Play With a Win
Beaver played their first home game and first conference game of the season against Penn State Brandywine
Monaca, PA - The Lions were at home today taking on Penn Dtate Brandywine in the first conference match-up of the season. Beaver has had a rough start to their season playing tough opponents and falling 0-5. Going into this game Beaver was looking for a much needed win, and they got it.
The first quarter started off on a good note for the Lions with a made three pointer. This gave them some fuel, but Brandywine responded quick gaining an early lead. The Lions did not let them keep it and tied the game, then took the lead. By the end of the first quarter the score was 18-15 in Beaver's favor.
The second quarter went much like the first. Beaver came out with an early three and followed that with two more to get an 8 point lead over Brandywine just under two minutes into the quarter. Beaver let up too much on the defensive game and Brandywine was able to close their lead towards the end of the quarter. Beaver was able to get their lead back and ran it up to 10 points. However, Brandywine made a comeback and by the end of the half Beaver was only up 42-36.
The third quarter started in Brandywine favor when they scored the first basket. Beaver followed quickly with a bucket of their own, but the game still remained close. For most of the quarter, Beaver was not up by more than ten points until three minutes were left in the quarter. Beaver was able to forced turnovers and get made baskets to end the quarter 49-63.
Beaver just had fun the last quarter of the game playing amazing defense and forcing many turnovers. The Lions protected the basket well only allowing Brandywine to score 6 points in the last ten minutes of the game. Beaver claimed their first conference win, first home win, and first win of the season defeating Brandywine 81-55.
First year Emery Black (New Braunfels, TX) put up 17 points, had 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals for the Lions. First year Claudia Siegfried (Wilkes-Barre, PA) finished with 15 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Fourth year Kyra Seggewiss (Calgary Alberta, Canada) finished with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal. Fourth year Caitlyn O'Hara (Norco, CA) finished with 4 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, and 6 blocks.
