Beaver Falls Short in First Game of the Season
Buffalo, NY - Beaver kicked off the season today taking on Bryant and Stratton- Syracuse in the Bobcat Kickoff Classic.
Beaver had a rough start to their season today losing by just six points to Bryan and Stratton Syracuse. Bryant and Stratton Syracuse started off the game going on a 14-0 run against the Lions. Beaver finally managed to get a bucket when fourth year Alison Boykin (Canton, OH) scored a layup with just under four minutes remaining. The first quarter would end with Beaver down 11-18.
Beaver picked it up in the second quarter of the game chipping at Bryant and Strattons lead to get within 6 points. However this was not enough to get the lead over Bryant and Stratton and the half would end with Beaver down 23-52.
While still behind, the lions did not give up and were able to catch up in just three minutes to be down 30-35 in the beginning of the third quarter. Bryant and Stratton would then push their lead back up to 18 points by playing off of Beaver's offensive and defensive mistakes. By the end of the third quarter Beaver was back to being down by 11 points with the score at 41-52.
The fourth quarter is where Beaver shined. In just over two minutes into the quarter, Beaver cut Bryant and Stratton's lead to just three points with the score at 49-52. With just six minutes remaining in the final quarter, the game was tied 56-56 after first year Emery Black (New Braunfels, TX) made a layup. However, this would be the last bucket Beaver would score for the game, and Bryant and Stratton went on to score 6 points in four minutes to defeat Beaver 64-58.
Second year Makitah Logan (Pittsburgh, PA) claimed player of the game after finishing with 15 points, going 5-17 from the field, 2-8 from the three, and 3-3 from the free throw line. Logan also grabbed 3 rebounds, had 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block. Second year Daniela Guzman (Plainview, TX) was the second highest scored for Beaver finishing with 13 points, and finished with 5 assists, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal. Fourth year Kyra Seggewiss (Calgary Alberta, Canada) finished with 15 rebounds, 1 assist, and 5 steals.
