Beaver Goes Undefeated at Home this Season After Defeating Fayette
Monaca, PA - The Women's Bsketball team here at Penn State Beaver played their final home game of the regular season. Beaver has been undefeated all year at home, and it remained that way after today's game.
Before the game, the team honored their senior team manager Nia Holly. Nia Holly has been the team manager for two years and played for Beaver for one year. Holly played on the team the 2019-2020 season winning the conference championship and the national championship. As a manager, Holly was a part of last years team that won the conference championship. Holly has been a huge part of the Women's Basketball team both as a player and as a team manager.
The first quarter of the game started off strong for Beaver. Beaver scored the first bucket of the game after struggling to get a bucket the first minute and a half. Fayette scored on the next play, and Beaver responded with another bucket. Fayette tied the game 4-4, and that would be the only time they would tie the game. Fayette would be close behind Beaver for he rest of the first. The quarter ended 18-14 and Beaver would go into the second quarter with the lead. Beaver turned it up in the second quarter, and was ready to end the game then. They extended their lead and ended up closing the half scoring 18 points, only allowed Fayette to score 7, and closed the half with a 36-21 lead.
The second half remained in Beaver's favor. The third quarter was the best quarter Beaver played. They extended their lead to 20 points, and did not let up. Beaver had their largest lead this quarter being up by 25 points with just under a minute remaining. Beaver scored 19 points in this quarter and only allowed Fayette to score 8 points. The fourth quarter remained in favor of Beaver. they held onto a lead of 20 points or more for the entire quarter. Beaver closed out the game scoring 10 points in the fourth, only allowing Fayette to score 10 points, and closed the season undefeated at home with a 65-39 win over Fayette.
Junior Alison Boykin (Canton, OH) was the player of the game finishing with 16 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals. Freshman Anissa Mata (San Antonio, TX) finished with 10 points, 1 steal, 3assists, and 2 rebounds. Junior Kyra Seggewiss (Calgary Alberta, Canada) finished with 10 points, 3 steals, 2 assists, and5 rebounds.
