Win Streak Extends to Three After Defeating New Kensington
New Kensington, PA - The Women's Basketball team was back in play to take on Penn State New Kensington. Beaver was back on the road for this game. Earlier this season, Beaver beat New Kensington 55-35.
New Kensington scored the first basket of the game two minutes into the first quarter. Beaver responded shortly after and that is truly when this game began. The first quarter remained neck-in-neck. When one team scored, the other respond shortly after. Beaver struggled in this quarter. New Kensington came out ready to play, while Beaver was slow to get into the game. This was shown when the first quarter ended and New Kensington had scored 13 points while Beaver only managed to score 8. The second quarter of the game was not much better for Beaver. New Kensington went into the second quarter with the lead, and kept it for the entire second quarter. Beaver was able to get close a few times, but New Kensington did not let up. New Kensington had an early 10 point lead over Beaver, and although Beaver managed to close the gap, it was not enough. New Kensington close out the half having a 25-19 lead over Beaver.
The start of the third was rough for Beaver. They did not score for the first 3 minutes, and New Kensington was able to extend their lead to 12 points. Beaver worked hard t close the gap, and with 3 minutes remaining in the quarter they managed to tie the game. Beaver was able to get a small lead over New Kensington, but New Kensington managed to tie the game 44-44 by the end of the third. The fourth quarter remained very close. Beaver was able to get a lead, but New Kensington closed it quickly and the game remained within 3 points. Beaver played their best quarter in the fourth, and they were able to get a 13 point lead with just 3 minutes remaining. Beaver did not let up, and after a rough game, they traveled home with a 21 point win over New Kensington. The final score was 79-58.
Freshman Makitah Logan (Pittsburgh, PA) came off the bench and put up big number. Logan finished the game with a career high 30 points and had 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Logan went 11-17 from the field, 6-10 from the three point line, and 2-2 from th foul line. Freshman Daniela Guzman (Plainview, TX) was also a key player finishing with 17 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, and 1 steal. Guzman went 6-15 from the field and 5-12 from the three. Sophomore Kiera Baker (Houston, TX) finished with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
