Beaver's women's basketball team returned to their home court Friday night, taking on Penn State Worthington Scranton. The conference game, which was rescheduled from Jan. 12, resulted in a 80-38 win for Beaver. Before the game started, the team took time to congratulate senior Brittany Jackson, who made her 1,000th career point Monday against Greater Allegheny.
From the start of this game, Beaver was in charge as senior Roxy Kie made a 3-point jump shot, the first shot of the night. Scranton made a layup soon after, but they didn't do much else in the way of scoring. Beaver dominated the quarter and the entire game, while Scranton struggled to make shots. All of Beaver's defense shined as they made continuous layups with ease. Jackson and freshman Diamond Thomas led the first in layups, while sophomore Cheyenne Lopez made several successful shots on goal.
As the second quarter started, Beaver was ahead with an astonishing 21-4 score. Scranton began to slightly improve their game, but Beaver did not let down their defense. Junior Ally Rudolph made a few layups, as well as a 3-pointer, building Beaver's lead even further. Freshman Libby Thomas also shined in the quarter with a pair of jump shots, bringing the team to a 42-19 lead at the half.
The third quarter showed Beaver continuing their dominance, as they continued to outshoot Scranton. Rudolph continued to build points for Beaver, thanks in part to another 3-point shot, while sophomore Tara McFadden helped the team in successfully stealing the ball from Scranton.
At the start of the fourth quarter, Beaver was up 63-28. It was clear that Beaver had this game in the bag, but they continued to work to build their lead while Scranton continued to struggle. A last minute jumpshot from sophomore Rachael Cummings helped to bring Beaver to a 80-38 victory over Scranton.
The team is now 11-12 in their overall season and 10-3 in their conference matches. They will return to the court tomorrow afternoon when they take on Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
