By: Chris Rotondo
The Beaver women's team celebrated Senior Night with a conference win against Penn State Du Bois, defeating them 88-59.
After a pre-game ceremony honoring seniors Brittany Jackson and Roxy Kie, the Beaver team got down to buisness, gaining an early 3 point lead thanks to junior Ally Rudolph. Beaver used their possession of the ball to their advantage, as Jackson led the team in layups, while Du Bois initially struggled to make shots. Near the end of the first, Du Bois started to gain some traction, but it was not enough to gain a lead, as Beaver led 20-16.
Realizing how close the game could have come to a tie, Beaver upped their offensive strategy, keeping pressure on the defense. Jackson continued to make layups when possible, while she and sophomore Cheyenne Lopez each made a 3-point jump shot, helping to build a greater lead.
By the start of the third, Beaver was up 43-30. They continued to push in the second half, building their lead against the tired Du Bois. Jackson and Lopez each made 3-pointers again early in the quarter, as did Kie later in the quarter. The team was very strong in their defense, as they built their lead even further.
By the fourth, Beaver was up 69-50. Despite the game long lead, they knew that they had to keep up their defense in order to pull out a win. By this point, Du Bois looked tired, continuing to give Beaver easy shots on goal. Junior Ally Rudolph made a 3-pointer that put the team up even further, while sophomore Tara McFadden also moved the team up on the board. Beaver went on to win the game 88-59.
The team is now 8-12 in their overall season and 7-3 in their conference matches. They will travel to Penn State Fayette on Saturday for another PSUAC conference matchup.
