Beaver Shines in Win Against York
Monaca, PA -- Beaver Shines in Win Against York
By: Chris Rotondo
Beaver's women's basketball team began their Spirit Weekend matchups Friday night, taking on Penn State York. Beaver showed their swagger on the court, defeating York 83-58 in the conference match-up.
As the game started, Beaver maintained an early lead thanks to a pair of 3-point jump shots by junior Ally Rudolph. The entire team shined, with senior Brittany Jackson leading the pack in field goals. From the get-go, York looked to be a team that was uncomfortable on the court; halfway through the quarter, Beaver was up by 15 points. Sophomore Cheyenne Lopez also helped to move the team up on the scoreboard, making several layups.
By the start of the second quarter, Beaver was already looking to be the dominant team, leading 25-10. That determination continued in the second, though York began to improve their stamina on the court. A 3-pointer from Lopez helped to build Beaver's lead against their opponent. In the final minute of the quarter, York began to build some traction, putting almost as many points on the board as they did in the entire first quarter. Still, Beaver maintained a strong lead of 39-27 at the half.
The third and fourth quarters showed that Beaver was in control of the game. They continued to significantly outshoot York, especially on 3-pointers, something that York continued to struggle with. Senior Roxy Kie provided a few 3-pointers, as did Rudolph and freshman Julia Sabbio. The entire team provided one another with support, leading to successful shots from much of the roster. York, looking frustrated, realized that this game was not theirs, despite a very brief comeback at the last minute. Beaver went on to win the game 83-58.
The team is now 6-12 in their overall season and 5-3 in their PSUAC conference matches. They will return to the court tomorrow afternoon as Spirit Weekend continues, taking on Penn State Mont Alto.
