The Beaver Lady Lions traveled to Penn State Brandywine Friday, playing their first of two weekend PSUAC conference games. Despite a strong comeback, Beaver was defeated 94-72.
The game started in Brandywine's favor, as they made 9 points in the first 3 minutes of the game. Senior Roxy Kie made a jump shot that put Beaver on the board shortly after. Brandywine continued to dominate afterwards, while Beaver struggled to gain control of the ball. Freshman Diamond Thomas earned Beaver a few points, but the team struggled as they were down 22 points at the end of the first.
The second period fared better for the team, though they still struggled to make it ahead of their opponent. Kie made a 3-point jump shot that helped the team significantly. Senior Brittany Jackson led the team in layups and free throws. While their performance was slightly better in this quarter, the team struggled from the wide lead that Brandywine carried. Beaver was down 53-28 at the half.
In the third and fourth quarters, Beaver started to turn things around, as they led both quarters in shots made. Kie made another 3-pointer early in the third that helped the team, while sophomore Cheyenne Lopez helped the team with a few layups of her own. The fourth quarter showed Beaver beginning a comeback, but it was much too late, as Brandywine maintained their large lead throughout the game. Freshman Julia Sabbio made a few layups and free throws in the final minutes of the game. Freshman Kayla Cambell made a 3-point jump shot in the final minute of the game, though it was not enough to overcome in the end, as Beaver lost 94-72.
The team is now 5-10 in their overall season and 4-2 in the PSUAC conference. They will travel to Penn State Lehigh Valley Saturday afternoon for another conference matchup.
