Penn State Beaver's Lady Lions were on the road Friday night, as they defeated Penn State Hazelton 73-59 in their second PSUAC conference match of the season.
The first quarter started with Beaver gaining an early lead. Senior Brittany Jackson made a layup, putting Beaver on the scoreboard, while sophomore Tara McFadden made a jump shot, giving the team an early 4-0 lead. The first quarter ended with Beaver in the lead 14-8. The second quarter showed Beaver continuing their dominance, as Hazelton missed their layup and jump shot attempts. Free throws by Jackson and freshman Jakhira Legoskey helped to move Beaver up even more on the scoreboard.
As the second half began, Beaver lead the game 31-21. Hazelton began to move up the scoreboard during the third quarter, but they could not outdo Beaver's defensive skills. Jackson and sophomore Cheyenne Lopez helped to bring Beaver up to a 54-41 lead at the end of the third. As the fourth quarter started, Hazelton began to make the match a close one, stealing the ball from Beaver early on. However, between Lopez's multiple layups and a successful steal by senior Roxy Kie, it was Beaver who came out victorious, winning the game 73-59.
The Lady Lions are now 2-0 in the PSUAC conference this season. They will travel to Penn State Schuylkill on Saturday for another conference match-up.
