Monaca, PA -- The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions took on the women of Pitt-Titusville in the team's final home game this season. Having already clinched a first round bye for the PSUAC playoffs, Beaver came into this game looking to stay hot for their first playoff matchup on Saturday, February 18.
This game was one of the most one-sided games Beaver has been in all season. From the start, Beaver was able to jump ahead to a 8 point lead without much of a fight from Pitt-Titusville. In the first three minutes Beaver looked sharp, stealing the ball three times while not allowing a single point. The game continued on this way as Beaver ended the first quarter with a 25-17 lead. The second quarter was more of the same for both sides, as Beaver continued to score at will, while Pitt had a hard time stopping Beaver's offensive attack. The team continued their second quarter rout, and by halftime they had built a 50-34 lead.
The second half of play showed an even more dominant Beaver team than the first half, as Beaver not only continued to dominate on offensive, they also managed to stop Pitt's offense as well. In the third quarter, Beaver held Pitt to 31% shooting and only 13 points, while the lady lions racked up 29 point of their own. As the fourth quarter started, Beaver was up 79-47 with all of the momentum in the world behind them. As the minutes clicked away, Beaver kept their lead over Pitt-Titusville, eventually taking an impressive win by a final score of 103-57.
After their win over Pitt-Titusville, the Beaver women finish up their regular season with a record of 17-8. The team was led in this game by the efforts of Senior Mason Depetro (Pittsburgh, PA / Cornell), who scored a team high 26 points while racking up 9 assists, 8 rebounds, and 6 steals. The team will play next on Saturday, February 18, at Penn State York for their semi-final game of the PSUAC playoffs. The team will face off against the winner of the quarter-final game between Penn State Du Bois and Penn State Hazelton. Tip-off is set for 7 pm.
