Fayette, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver women's basketball team took to the road to face off against conference opponent, Penn State Fayette. The women come into this game looking to continue adding to their conference wins in order to hang on to a top four finish in the PSUAC. While the team has played well over their last three games, they will look to improve upon their game in order to be ready by the time the PSUAC playoffs to repeat their performance last season.
The game was a close one from the start, with both teams coming out of the gate scoring quickly. The two sides went back and forth for a while in the first quarter, trading off shots without letting either side gain too much momentum. Beaver went into the second with a two point lead that the team struggled to hold onto, giving it up to Fayette in the first four minutes of play. The game continued on as a tightly heated bout, and as neither team could find a way to gain an edge in the first half the score going into halftime was 28-27.
The third quarter was more of the same from these two teams, as neither side came out with anything new in this quarter. The two sides continued on going back and forth and went into the fourth quarter with Beaver up by a score of 44-41. The fourth quarter was finally the quarter where Beaver was able to pull ahead, gaining a quick edge of Fayette as they built on their small lead from the third quarter. When this one was all said and done, Beaver had managed to walk away with a 10 point, 61-51 victory.
With their win over Fayette, the Lady Lions now sit at 11-2 in conference play while securing their fourth straight win. As the team moves up to 15-7 overall, they move one step closer to locking up a top four finish in the PSUAC standings. The team was led in this game by Senior Asia Borders (Ellwood City, Pa / Lincoln) who recorded a double-double with a team high 20 points and 10 rebounds. The team will play next on Thursday, February 9, at home against Carlow. Game time is set for 7 pm.
