DuBois, Pa -- The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions took to the road for a big conference matchup against Penn State DuBois late in the season. The women come into this game on a two game win streak, currently sitting at 9-2 in conference play. With a win over DuBois, Beaver will be one step closer to securing a top four spot in the PSUAC standings going into the conference playoffs.
This game started off as a tight battle between two good teams. The first eight minutes of play were very back and forth between the two teams, as they traded off the lead a few times before Beaver started to gain some momentum. With two minutes left to play in the quarter, Beaver went on a short 5-2 run in which Freshman Jazmyne Boyd (Aliquippa, PA / Hopewell) single handedly gave Beaver a 15-12 lead going into the second quarter. Beaver was able to carry this momentum over into the second quarter as they built on their lead with a 15-3 run in the first five minutes of play. However, DuBois came to life in remaining minutes before the half and cut Beaver's lead down to 5 points, bringing the score to 36-31 at halftime.
The second half of play once again showed a battle between the two sides. This time, however, Beaver managed to hold onto a lead throughout the third quarter of play but were never able to pull ahead for the big lead that they had built halfway through the second quarter. The final quarter of play is where Beaver finally took control of the pace of play, buckling down and stopping DuBois' push to take back this game. In the end Beaver would win this one by a final score of 70-60.
With their win over DuBois, Beaver now sits at fourth place in the PSUAC standings with an overall record of 14-7 and a conference record of 10-2. The Lady Lions played well in this game, getting help from everyone on their team in the winning effort. The team was led in their victory by the efforts of Freshmen Jazmyne Boyd, who recorded a double-double with 16 points and a team high 11 rebounds. Beaver will play next on Saturday, February 4, at Penn State Fayette. Game time is set for 5 pm.
