Lady Lions Advance to USCAA Semi-Finals, Defeat Berkley (NY) 81-53
The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions Defeated Berkley College (NY) 81-51 in the first round of the USCAA National Tournament
Uniontown, PA- The #2 seeded Penn State Beaver Lady Lions advanced to the semi-final round of the USCAA National tournament, defeating Berkley College (NY) 81-55.
The first half was much closer than the second. Berkley held the lead for the first 10 minutes before Beaver tied the game at 19-19 with 9:33 left in the first half. Beaver built a lead as high of 10 in the first half, but Berkley cut it back to 4 with one minute left. After a Beaver run in the final minute, Beaver went into half time leading 33-26. In the second half, Beaver opened the flood gates, out scoring Berkley 48-29.
Rebounding and shooting percentage were key in the Beaver victory. Beaver out rebounded their opponent 66-36. Beaver shot 42 percent on the game (32 for 72) while Berkley shot an abmissmal 28 percent (18-63).
In the win, Beaver had five players finish with double digits in points. Sophomore Cassandra Flowers (Pittsburgh, PA/Westinghouse) finished with 18 points and Junior Khalia Adams (Washington, DC/Phelps) finished with 14; both coming off the bench. Sophomore Asia Borders (EllwoodCity,PA/Lincoln) and Junior Morgan Kurtz (Washington, PA/Trinity) added 12; while freshman Brittany Jackson (Turtle Creek, PA/Westinghouse) chipped in 10. Flowers and Jackson recorded double-doubles, grabbing 14 and 11 rebounds respectively.
With the win, Beaver advances to Friday's USCAA Semi-Finals scheduled on Friday at 7PM in the main arena. They will take on the winner of #6 seeded Southern Maine and #3 seeded Penn State Lehigh Valley.
