Lady Lions Win Wild One, Downing Hazleton 83-80
Beaver wins 83-80
Monaca, PA- On Friday night, the Lady Lions hosted 4th place Hazleton in a game that had huge playoff implications. In a game that started out looking like a Beaver route, ended in thrilling fashion.
The Lady Lions came out smoking in the first half, starting the game on a 13-1 run. Hazleton responded with a 25-7 run of its own, building a six point lead (26-20) with five minutes left in the first half. Beaver tied the game at the 2:50 mark, on back to back 3 pointers by sophomore Khalia Adams (Washington D.C./Phelps). On the next possession, Beaver retook the lead on a layup by Sophomore Cassandra Flowers (Pittsburgh, PA/ Westinghouse). Beaver held a 35-34 lead at the half.
The second half was a lot different than the first, there were no big runs. Instead, neither team led by more than three at any point of the second half, with the lead changing two times. Freshman Mason DePetro (Coraopolis, PA/Cornell) hit three of four free throws to keep the lead at three. Hazleton had the ball with 7.6 seconds left, but Beaver's stingy defense did not allow a shot. Beaver won the game 83-80.
Beaver was led by DePetro who had 16 points and Kelsey Brooks (Allderdice/Pittsburg, PA) with 15. Flowers also chipped in with a double-double, 12 points and 12 rebounds.
With a conference record of 11-3 (14-10 Overall), Beaver faces Penn State Worthington-Scranton in their last game of the regular season Saturday at 1 p.m.
