Mont Alto, PA- The Lady Lions of Penn State Beaver (15-10, 12-4 PSUAC) played in the final four round of the PSUAC playoffs this afternoon against Penn State Brandywine (Media, PA).
Seeking revenge after a loss to Brandywine back in January, Beaver came out strong, as Brooke Mulneix (Riverside/Beaver Falls, PA) hit a three pointer to open up the game. Beaver made five three pointers in the first 7:15 of the game to take a 19-7 lead with 12:45 left. Brandywine soon responded, but Brittany Tomaselli (East Liverpool/East Liverpool, OH) picked up a steal and layup to give Beaver a ten point (29-19) lead with just under four minutes left in the half. The Lady Lions went into halftime up 32-26.
Brandywine picked up strong defense in the second half, and went on a 11-4 run to take the lead (37-36) left in the game. Amanda Temple (Avella/Avella, PA) hit a free throw to tie the game at 37, but Brandywine took the lead again right after. Kayona Ward (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls, PA) scored six straight points to keep the Lady Lions within seven (44-51). After another three pointer by Mulneix however to bring the game within four (49-53) with 6:15 remaining, Brandywine went on a 10-0 run to end the game. The Lady Lions went on to lose 63-49.
Mulneix lead the team with 15 points (all three-pointers). Beaver shot 30.6% from the field, including 29.2% from three-point range, and 44.4% from the free throw line.
The Lady Lions have ended their season with a 15-10 record overall, 12-4 in the PSUAC.
