Beaver Falls in PSUAC Semi-final Game
Beaver - 1, Hazleton - 5
Scranton, PA -- Beaver loses to Hazleton in PSUAC semi-final.
After being rained out Sunday, the PSUAC tournament was changed to a single elimination tournament and Beaver knew they needed to get to work.
In the 1st inning, Lacey Weible (Hookstown, PA / South Side) led off with a single to left field. She was followed by Dina Cable (Mannington, NJ / Salem County Vo Tech) who reached on a fielders choice and Vanessa Jackson (Snohomish, WA / Snohomish) who walked. With the bases loeaded, Hazleton managed to keep Beaver off the board with a force out at home. But with only one out, and runners on second and third, senior, Jenna Petrucci (New Castle, PA / Shenango) hit a shallow fly ball to score Cable and put Beaver on the board.
The next four innings remained scoreless as both teams played tough defense and had aggressive pitching with Jackson givng up just three hits and striking out one in that span.
In the top of the 6th, Beaver gave up four runs to Hazleton making the score 4-1 midway through the inning. In their at bat they couldn't get the offense going and then gave up an additional run in the top of the 7th. Prepared to rally in the final half inning of the game, Beaver started the inning just like they started the game with Weible hitting a lead-off single to left and Cable reaching on a fielders choice, but getting the runner out at second. With just one out, Jackson reached on an error to put runners on first and second. Despite the late push, the last two batters each had flyouts and Beaver fell by a final score of 5-1.
Beaver now prepares for the USCAA National Tournament which is set to take place in Akron, Ohio at Historic Firestone Stadium starting May 15th. Entering as the 8th seed, Beaver will face the ninth seed, UC Clermont at 12:00 p.m.
