The Penn State Beaver women's softball team played the last game of their spring 2017 trip againt the girls of Medaille College. The team comes into this game still winless in Myrtle Beach, struggling to string together key hits when they need them in previous games.
This was an action packed game from the start, as both teams had no problems in getting their bats going early. Medaille took the first lead of the game, plating one in the bottom of the first inning off of an RBI single. Beaver answered right back in the top of the second inning, scoring three runs off of errors by Medaille as they jumped out to a 3-1 lead. However, Beaver's lead would be short lived as they would let up three runs to Medaille in the third inning off of a bases clearing triple, making it 4-3 Medaille. The next few innings would show these two teams fighting hard to take the lead as they would need to go into extra innings with the score tied 6-6 at the end of the sixth inning. All was quiet in the seventh and eight innings, as it wasn't until the ninth where both teams came back to life. In the top half of the ninth inning Beaver took a 7-6 lead off of a clutch, 2-out, RBI double from Dina Cable. The team was ready for their first win of the spring after this, needing only 3 outs in the bottom of the ninth to take this game. But, Medaille had no plans of going out quietly as they strung together some hits and ended up winning this game on a 2-out, RBI single that put them ahead 8-7.
This game would coclude Beaver's spring trip, as they would go home with a record of 0-7 after playing very well in each of their games. Beaver was led in their game against Medaille by the efforts of Sophomore Dina Cable (Mannington, NJ / Salem County Vo Tech), who gave Beaver the ninth inning lead with an important RBI double.
