Beaver Closes Regular Season with Convincing Win Over New Kensington

Lower Burrell, PA -- Beaver cruises by New Kensington by scores of 32-8 and 21-3.
Beaver traveled to Penn State New Kensington for their final regular season game of the 2015 season. Senior, Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA / Downingtown East) opened up the scoring in the top of the first inning with an RBI single, scoring Amanda Habedank (Nevile Island, PA / Cornell). The Lady Lions would go on to score three additional runs in the inning as New Kensington's defense was riddled with errors.
In the second inning Beaver continued to roll as Asia Borders (Ellwood City, PA / Ellwood) got things going with a 2 RBI double. That would be the spark that lead to five more runs in the inning bringing the run total for Beaver to 9-0. New Kensington would finally get on the board with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.
In the third the Beaver bats were relentless as they added 9 runs to their scoring efforts on the afternoon. Bringing the score to 18-3 through two and a half innings, Beaver couldn't keep New Kensington off the board as they scored two runs, keeping them in the game.
The fourth inning continued to be a battle as both teams tallied three runs. But it was in the fith inning that Beaver finally sealed the game scoring an impressive 11 runs including a 3 RBI homerun by freshman, Bailey Sinicrope (Pittsburgh, PA / OLSH), her first of the season. New Kensington didn't have an answer for Beaver, as the Lady Lions went on to win by a final score of 32-8 in 5 innings.
Leading the offense for Beaver in the game Sinicrope who went 3 for 5 from the plate with 7 RBI's. She was followed by Borrell who went 3 for 6 with 4 RBI's. On the mound for Beaver was Rachael Charlier (Burgettstown, PA / Burgettstown) who faced 33 batters giving up 5 hits, but striking out four.
In the second game of the double header Beaver maintained their momentum and continued to capitalize on the errors made by New Kensington's defense. In the top of the first inning Beaver was able to bat through their order, stringing together several base hits to score a total of 7 runs in the inning.
In the second inning Beaver was again able to string together base hits to score 8 runs which was capped off by a 2 RBI homerun by freshman, Haley Paul (Rochester, PA / Rochester), her first of the season. The third inning saw much of the same as Beaver tallied an additional 6 runs to bring the score to 21-2. New Kensington would manage one run in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn't enough to prevent them from losing to Beaver in three innings by a final score of 21-3.
Leading the way for the Lady Lions of Beaver was Mason Depetro who went 3 for 4 with an RBI. On the mound was Borrell who struck out 2 of the 16 batters she faced.
Finishing the regular season with a record of 6-10 in the PSUAC, Beaver heads into the conference tournament as the six seed and will face Hazleton in the first round game which is scheduled to be played on Wednesday, April 29th in State College, PA.
