Lady Lions Drop Season Opener
Penn State Beaver Lady Lions fell to NAIA Roosevelt University 13-4 to open the 2014 campaign
Elizabethtown, KY- The Lady Lions opened their 2014 campaign on a losing note Friday, losing to Roosevelt University 13-4 in their first game of the season.
In the first, Beaver opened the scoring, plating two. Senior Nicole Bowersox started the rally with a walk then stole second. Senior Lauren Pier reached on a dropped third strike, with Bowersox advancing to third. Sophomore Taylor Larson (Beaver/Beaver, PA) and Sophomore Rachel Charlier (Burgettstown/Burgettstown, PA) had RBI singles to put the Lady Lions ahead 2-0. But that would not last for long, as Roosevelt scored four in their half of the first. Larson walked with bases loaded in the second to pull Beaver with in one (4-3), but that would be as close as it go as Roosevelt scored 3 in the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. Junior Rachell Borrell singled home Pier in the fourth for Beaver's final run.
In the loss, Borrell and Charlier both had two hits and 1 RBI, and Larson had 2 RBI's. Both teams had 7 hits a piece, but Beaver walked 8 batter which ultimately proved to be their downfall.
Beaver (0-1) returns to action at 1 pm today taking on RMU of Springfield.
