Beaver wins twice over CCBC
Lady Lions defeat the Lady Titans by scores of 10-2 and 8-0
Monaca, PA -- In a late addition to their regular season schedule the Lady Lions faced the Lady Titans of CCBC this afternoon. In the first game of the double header, the Lions opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning as freshman, Myranda Robson (Rochester, PA/Rochester) singled and advanced to second on an errant throw. After stealing third, Robson was brought in by freshman, Taylor Larson (Beaver, PA/Beaver) to give the Lady Lions a one run lead. They continued to score in the third inning as hits came from Rachel Borrell (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown East), Korey Freyermuth (Pittsburgh, PA/Perry) and Lauren Pier (New Brighton, PA/New Brighton) who doubled. After the four run third inning, the Lady Lions kept a comfortable lead for the rest of the game despite giving up one run in both the fourth and fifth innings. Beaver capped the game off in the bottom of the fifth inning with five hits and five runs, with the winning run coming off of a hit by Freyermuth.
Offensively Beaver was led by Freyermuth who went 3 for 4 from the plate including the walk off single. Also making contributions were Borrell, Pier and Amanda Palombo (Aliquippa, PA/Quigley) who each had two hits in the game.
In the circle for the Lady Lions was Freyermuth who had a no hitter through three innings, but gave up a run in the fourth and fifth innings but struck out 7 of the 17 batters she faced.
The second game of the double header had much the same feel as the first as Beaver jumped out to an early three run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Helping gain the early lead were Freyermuth and Robson who both doubled. The Lady Lions then added two more runs in both the third and fourth innings to give Beaver a 7-0 lead going into the fifth inning. After holding CCBC scoreless in the top of the fifth inning, with two outs, senior, Korey Freyermuth hit a towering walk off home run to left field to end the game in her last home game as a Lady Lion.
Leading the offense in the second game were Freyermuth who went 3 for 3 from the plate including the home run and Sydney Brinton (Pittsburgh, PA/Brashear) and Myranda Robson who both went 2 for 2.
On the mound was Freyermuth who didn't give up a single run and only four hits while striking out 9 of the 18 batters faced.
With the regular season officially over, the Lady Lions now head to Penn State Mont Alto for the PSUAC Softball Playoffs as the #2 seed. They will face Penn State Schuylkill Monday afternoon in the 1:00 p.m. game.
